Après deux excellents albums, ce formidable groupe apparu dans la mouvance postpunk livre ici son chef-d'œuvre. Quittant l'underground londonien, il traverse l'océan et fait produire ce disque par le génial Todd Rundgren, qui embellit sa musique sombre et martiale d'un incroyable mur de sons (claviers, violoncelle, chœurs) sans la dénaturer pour autant. Le mélodique et délicat "Love My Way" sera ainsi son premier hit aux États-Unis, mais on retrouve également ici toute la puissance de ce groupe inclassable (entre Bowie pour la voix, les Sex Pistols pour l'énergie et Joy Division ou le Velvet Underground pour les ambiances sulfureuses) sur le mythique et décoiffant "President Gas" (bonjour à Ronald Reagan). En bonus CD à cet album parfait, quatre inédits et deux versions live. Somptueux.
