Ayant commencé sa carrière (avec succès) comme gentil chanteur pop dans les années 60, Cat Stevens se réinventa en singer-songwriter concerné plus crédible (et plus barbu) au début de la décennie suivante, avec l'album Mona Bone Jakon. Il y renouvelait également le son de sa musique, plus sobre, centré autour de sa voix et de sa guitare sèche, accompagnées d'un clavier, d'un deuxième guitariste (le fin Alun Davies) et d'une rythmique discrète. Il reprit cette recette quelques mois plus tard pour cet album, toujours produit par Paul Samwell-Smith (ex Yardbirds), qui bénéficie de chansons encore plus fortes, à l'image de "Where Do The Children Play ?", "Sad Lisa", "Wild World" ou "Father And Son". Le succès, une nouvelle fois, fut immédiat et énorme… |
